Zero Waste Schools Programme at Sri Guru Harkrishan International School, Ranjit Avenue

Sri Guru Harkrishan International School, Ranjit Avenue, Amritsar, successfully organized a Zero Waste Schools Programme in collaboration with the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW). The initiative aimed to create awareness among students about responsible waste management and the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling waste materials to build a sustainable future.

The session began with an interactive presentation where experts explained the concept of Zero Waste and how schools can play a vital role in environmental conservation. Students learned about different types of waste — biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and recyclable — and how to properly segregate them.

Hands-on activities were conducted where students enthusiastically participated in sorting waste materials into various categories. This practical experience helped them understand the challenges of waste segregation and the importance of proper disposal methods. The event also included creative discussions on how to minimize waste generation within the school premises through eco-friendly practices.

The program encouraged students to become “Green Ambassadors”, taking forward the mission of maintaining cleanliness and sustainability in their communities. Teachers and facilitators appreciated the enthusiasm and active involvement of the students throughout the session.

The initiative was a great step toward fostering environmental responsibility among young learners, aligning with the school’s vision of nurturing socially responsible and environmentally conscious citizens.
